Basic Restaurant Etiquettes Part 2

In our last blog we have mentioned few restaurant etiquettes that you should follow in a restaurant. Today we will share few more basic restaurant etiquettes and help you to have a nice time at a restaurant.

Food Etiquette

When food is served at the table, the dishes should be passed in a counter-clockwise flow. Don’t reach across the table for anything, it looks bad. Instead, ask it to be passed from the person sitting closest to the item. Always remember to use serving utensils and not your own to lift food from the serving dish. It’s a good manners to pass salt and pepper together. If a person asks for just one, pass both.

Eating Etiquette
Table manners were designed so that you can enjoy your food and spend some quality time with the people you love. So here are some essential restaurant etiquette rules that you must follow for a perfect time.

  • Keep your phone silent and choose not to talk while you are eating as it is a bad manners and might seem rude to the person sitting next to you.
  • At a small table of only two to four people, wait until everyone else has been served before starting to eat.
  • Don’t cut all your food before you begin eating. Cut one or two bites at a time.
  • Don’t blow on your food if it is hot. Wait a few minutes for your food to cool off.
  • Use your utensils for eating and not to make gesture while eating, it is even better not to gossip too much about anything.
  • Elbows should be off the table. Rest the hand you are not using in your lap.
  • Try to avoid burping or making other weird sounds at the table.
  • If you spill something on the table, signal one of the servers to help you out.
  • When you finish eating, the utensils should be left on the plate or in bowl.
  • Don’t use a toothpick or dental floss at the table, it looks wrong, instead go to the washroom if you have to.
  • While women at a restaurant may reapply lipstick, but it is wise to not start with the rest of the makeup at the table.

Basic Restaurant Etiquettes You Should Follow Part 1

Table manners are basically the rules that should be followed while eating, which includes the way you sit, eat, behave and also use the available utensils. Whether it's a formal business or social function, our table manners are always under critical scrutiny. While we all know better that we should not be turning up at a 'white tablecloth restaurant' in our flip flops or washed out jeans, yet very few knows the subtle difference of fine dining etiquette. But dining out doesn't have to be a frightening experience for anyone. Today we are going to share with you few fine dining etiquettes.

Making Good Use of Napkin

Place your napkin in your lap immediately upon sitting down. Unfold it while it is in your lap. While you are doing this, make sure the whole process look seamless and not cumbersome.

Utensil

While dining in a restaurant is a classy affair, you should not forget that utensils play an important part there. Use the utensils on the outside of the plate first and work your way in with each new course slowly, you have to look as relaxed as you can while you are managing the utensils, you don’t want to look stressed up.

Eating Without Making Noise

Scraping a plate or loudly chewing is unpleasant to listen to and is also considered impolite. Slurping food is one of the major mistake and a sign of bad table manners.

Removing Unwanted Food from your Mouth

Remove food from the mouth in the manner in which it is put into the mouth. Food put into the mouth with a fork or spoon has to be removed with them. If you are using fingers to eat food, the pit or bone is removed with fingers.

How to Excuse Yourself

Leaving without a word is rude and is also a bad manners. Simply say "excuse me, please; I'll be right back" when you are leaving for the restroom, it’s as simple as that.
